From the latin anicula, or "little, old woman".

Found growing in a forested region inhabited by both the frequent Dracula wallisii and the much less frequent Dracula cutis-bufonis by a forgotten collector near Medellín, this rare taxon is known from a single plant. All plants currently in cultivation have been derived from divisions of the original plant.
